501 LIFE is proud to welcome fashion writer Georgie McCarthy to the pages of the magazine.
As an introduction, Georgie shared some information about her background, her interest in fashion and her blog with 501 readers:
Education: I am currently an art student at the University of Central Arkansas and hope to graduate in December with a bachelor of fine arts. I have an emphasis in painting, but I also love graphic design and fashion. I am also the art editor for the UCA Vortex Magazine, and I work part time at Style Encore in Conway. I am most proud to be owner and creator of thestyletransplant.com, my style/fashion blog.
Background: I was born in Derbyshire, England, in April; most likely on a rainy day. I was raised there for the first four years of my life, before my dad’s job brought us to the United States. Other than my immediate family, the rest of my relatives still live in England. We make it a point to visit at least once a year, not only to see our family, but also to get our fill of English pastries, chocolates and pies, oh my!
A few of my favorite things: My favorite night in would consist of a few close friends and family eating a pizza, playing board games and cozying up to watch a good movie. I am a sucker for a good night in. I also love shopping with my mom, FaceTiming with my favorite cousin and long walks in the countryside with my dog, Derby. My favorite type of days are snow days. I feel like snow is a little bit of magic, and it can really make you feel like a kid again.
My interest in fashion: It probably began with the weekly trips my mom, her best friend, Mrs. Cindy, and I would take shopping. Nearly every weekend we would stop by Starbucks in the morning to fuel ourselves for the long shopping day ahead. It has always been somewhat of a special occasion for me. The brightly decorated shop windows and the rush of finding that perfect new jacket added to the magic.
Another reason style became such an important factor to me was because of how shy I was in high school. When I say shy, I mean painfully so. Style quickly became a way for me to express myself to others without actually having to say anything. Through feedback from this and winning “Best Dressed” in my class, I gained confidence. Creating a personal style really helped me find myself.
About the blog: The Style Transplant, my blog, was born one chilly, January morning after encouragement from countless friends and family members. For a long time, I had this passion for style, but no outlet to express and explore my love for it. After much research, I decided a blog was the best way to combine my interest in fashion, art and writing. I decided on the name for my blog when thinking about what defines my style. Having both an American and English fashion influence has really created a style unique to me. The blog, thestyletransplant.com, was eventually cast out into the world wide web on Jan. 9, 2016, in the hope of both documenting a personal style journey and sharing tips and tricks for others to improve and find their own personal style. In the past year, my blog has helped me gain so many new friends and opportunities, and I genuinely enjoy creating content for it more than anything else.
