We long for travel experiences to allow us to de-stress, explore and get
away from it all. And, we often think getting away from it all equals
some far-away location. In the 501, however, we are able to have those
opportunities close to home, and to even find destinations with a
wellness component.
On an autumn day in 1963, President John F. Kennedy stood in front of a
stretch of incomparable beauty – crystal waters surrounded by crafted
rock and lined with a spectrum of color-rich trees. He recognized the
importance of investing in natural beauty. President Kennedy was looking
out on Greers Ferry Lake, a vista that captured perfectly the essence
of Arkansas, on the day he dedicated it as a national park.
Because Pinnacle Mountain is an environmental education park surrounded
by city, its interpreters have a unique opportunity and a responsibility
to introduce people to nature. It’s a responsibility they take
seriously.
Hot Springs has long been and remains one of the state’s top tourist
destinations, and for good reason. Attractions include Hot Springs
National Park, its famed Bath House Row and thermal baths, live and
simulcast thoroughbred racing, Magic Springs/Crystal Falls theme and
water parks, the 210-acre Garvan Woodland Gardens, a renowned arts
community, and the Mid-America Science Museum.
Riddle’s Elephant and Wildlife Sanctuary was established by Scott and
Heidi Riddle in 1990 on 330 acres near Greenbrier as a non-profit home
for elephants.
