Morrilton entrepreneur recalls building collapse one year later

It has been just a little over a year since Brandi Stobaugh Cooper squeezed herself into a tight little ball to try to avoid being hit by bricks and beams as the building where she had had her dream business collapsed around her.

Brandi and her staff had been hearing noises for several days at the Merle Norman store located on Broadway in Downtown Morrilton.

Nabholz Construction Services will be featured in the HBO documentary, The Weight of the Nation, airing May 14 and 15. The local company will be spotlighted in the final hour of the four-hour documentary showcasing the Nabholz corporate wellness program and their efforts to combat obesity and other preventable health problems.

The newspaper and yearbook staffs at Central Baptist College received 27 awards at the recent Arkansas College Media Association conference in Little Rock. In addition, junior Corey Shelman was named ACMA Photographer of the Year.

Year of the Girl: Thousands participate in leadership program

It’s the “Year of the Girl” for nearly 13,000 girls from all walks of life throughout Arkansas who have something special in common – Girl Scouts.

The Girl Scouts of the USA is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2012 and is using the occasion to recognize the “Year of the Girl.”

Conway Christian School recently celebrated its 20th anniversary with a special praise service.

Held in the school gymnasium, the event was designed as an opportunity to express gratitude to God and those who have been involved in the school.

Twenty-three teachers, including Conway educator Shiloh Harder, were recently named as the 2012 All American Teachers of the Year by the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI) – the leading national non-profit organization for improving American students’ math and science achievement.

Couple reaches out to orphans in Romania

Missionaries Elvis and Katie Opris plan to open a children’s home in Romania, but for a few months they are firmly planted in Vilonia.

The couple met while attending Central Baptist College in 2007. Katie is originally from Dallas, and Elvis is from Romania.
